Round up the family this Thanksgiving season and participate in South Jersey's Families Against Hunger Cookfest 2014! On November 21st-22nd, families all over South Jersey will be putting on their aprons and cooking a meal for those in need. This is a volunteer opportunity you can do at home in your very own kitchen! Prepared meals will be delivered to our Partners Against Hunger, who will distribute the food to local families who might not be able to experience a home-cooked meal very often. Don't wish to cook but want to contribute? Donate frozen or canned veggies to participating soup kitchens or make a monetary donation.
Volunteering as a family provides numerous benefits to your family and community.
Here are our top four reasons to give back as a family this Thanksgiving season:
1. Family volunteering can have a profound influence on a child’s understanding of generosity, teamwork, and their ability to impact the world. Through this project, you can instill the value of community service in your child in a fun environment. The result? A lifelong volunteer.
2. Finding time to spend together is challenging—but during the holiday season, this should become a priority. This event sets aside family time, allowing you to talk, laugh, and maybe even learn something new.
3. Have you wondered to yourself, ―Do my kids know how to cook?‖ Teach your children the valuable life skill cooking healthy meals for themselves – they may be surprised at how much fun it can be!
4. Completing a task can boost a child’s self-confidence. This feeling of accomplishment will make them feel better about themselves. As a bonus, watch sibling rivalry disappear when they have to rely on one another in the kitchen!
